balayage

Balayage is a French word with the appropriate meaning of "to sweep". It includes highlights and lowlights combined with - root coloring or no color change of natural roots - applied freely by hand to randomly selected strands for reflective effects and luminosity. Most of the color is concentrated in the mid-lengths and ends, but the effects that are most flattering are the subtle strands at the roots.
